Swakopmund means  "mouth of the Swakop River".   The Swakop River mouth into the Atlantic Ocean just south of the town,  and is also the border between it's neighboring town Walvis Bay.   Swakopmund boast very mild weather and the average daily temperature range between 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. The cold benquella current supply moisture for the area in the form of fog, and one might encounter fog as deep as 140km inland.
